If you've driven past the mostly empty on East Colonial Drive, here's what's next. A committee unanimously approved a 30-year lease Wednesday with The Wideman Company, which pledges a $20 million rehab. The plan keeps the arches and palm trees, swaps the awnings for a covered walkway, and leans into the plaza's 1985 roots.

The new east building would hold 125,000 square feet of retail

The east building comes down for 125,000 square feet of retail anchored by a big-box wholesale store with a gas station. The aviation authority has eyed the site since 2018, and its first call for developers was withdrawn for lack of interest.

  • Timeline: one year for permits, then two years of construction
  • Final vote: full aviation authority board, Wed., Nov. 18
  • New name: The Landings at Baldwin Park
  • Last two tenants expected to leave before year's end

Rent would start at $500,000 a year and average about $1.2 million
